Jerusalem Mayor Moshe Lion visited Shaare Zedek, where he was hosted by Director General Professor Ofer Merin.

During the visit, the Mayor toured the Underground Emergency ICU, the hospital’s fully operational underground shelter. This facility, designed to provide protection from missile and rocket attacks, is equipped for intensive care and is currently treating patients who require respiratory support or have complex conditions that cannot be relocated during sirens.

The Mayor’s delegation also visited the on-site childcare programme established for hospital staff, enabling them to continue their vital work despite widespread school closures.

Mayor Lion commented:
“I am filled with pride witnessing the commitment and unwavering dedication of the medical staff at Shaare Zedek, especially under such challenging emergency conditions. Prof. Merin and his team are leading with immense professionalism and deep faith, making the hospital a cornerstone of medical and security resilience in our city. Jerusalem remains strong and secure thanks to these exceptional individuals on the medical front lines. The people of Jerusalem can take comfort in knowing they are in capable hands.”

Professor Merin added:
“The residents of Jerusalem can rest assured that Shaare Zedek has spent weeks and months preparing for every possible scenario. Just last week, we conducted an emergency response drill in collaboration with the Ministry of Health. Our ability to respond to any situation stems from our strong commitment to preparedness and the extraordinary dedication of our staff.”
