There are some people doing a little happy dance right now at Shaare Zedek Medical Center Jerusalem / המרכז הרפואי שערי צדק and we think they deserve to, just a little, don’t you?

Keter Department A in Shaare Zedek Medical Center which was the first department in Jerusalem opened to treat coronavirus patients has closed after the last three patients have thankfully recuperated and been discharged.

During the last week thee coronavirus department at Shaare Zedek closed because the number of coronavirus patients has declined. This is incredible news and something for all the hardworking staff to celebrate.

Shaare Zedek continues to monitor the temperatures of all patients and visitors, ensure that everyone wear a mask and enforce distancing in waiting areas and public spaces. We pray that Israel are out of the woods.

Prof. Ofer Merin, the Director General of Shaare Zedek shared, “The closure of Keter Department A is an important milestone in the national struggle against the coronavius. Shaare Zedek is one of two hospitals that led the treatment of corona patients and is currently leading the research efforts to find treatments for the virus. The first patients from Jerusalem with the coronavirus were admitted to our Keter Department A and the first patients to recover from the coronavirus in Jerusalem were released from this department. Keter Department A served us and other hospitals as a model for establishing a first class department for treating coronavirus patients. We would like to thank the medical, nursing, physiotherapy, social services, logistics, security, construction, cleaning and all other staff members for their dedicated and professional life-saving work. ”

The Head of the Keter Department A, Dr. Ramzi Kurd said, “As Keter Department A closes, we have a strong sense of pride for the humane and compassionate care that we gave our patients. We experienced quite a few challenging moments, like the deaths of dear patients and also the recovery of many patients who returned home healthy. We would like to thank the staff of Keter Department A for their tremendous dedication over the past two months. We’ve proven how medicine should be – professional and humane.”
