We’re proud to celebrate Professor Nir Peled, Director of our Helmsley Cancer Center at Shaare Zedek, for the key role he played at the World Conference on Lung Cancer (WCLC 2025) in Barcelona earlier this month. This conference, is the world’s leading gathering of experts dedicated to tackling lung cancer.
At this year’s conference, Professor Peled chaired the Interdisciplinary Forum for Global Treatment Standards within the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer (IASLC). In this role, he is helping to lead a global effort to bring hospitals and cancer centres together, creating more unified standards of care so that patients everywhere can benefit from the best available treatments.
Professor Peled’s journey into medicine is as inspiring as it is impressive. After earning his MD/PhD with honours at the Technion’s Rappaport Faculty of Medicine, he trained in Internal Medicine and Pulmonology at Rabin Medical Center, before completing a fellowship in thoracic oncology at the University of Colorado in the United States. Along the way, he established lung cancer services at Beilinson Medical Center, served as Director of Oncology at Soroka Medical Center, and built and led thoracic oncology units across Israel.
Since joining Shaare Zedek in December 2020 as Director of the Oncology Department, and now as head of the Helmsley Cancer Center, Professor Peled has been driving forward our mission to provide world-class cancer care. Under his leadership, Shaare Zedek is not only advancing research and treatment but also strengthening the hospitals focus on early detection, patient-centred care, and compassionate support for families.
Professor Peled’s work is helping shape the future of lung cancer care worldwide. His vision, expertise, and dedication bring pride to Shaare Zedek and to Israel and, most importantly, hope to patients and communities across the globe
