Shaare Zedek UK was formed in the late 1940’s to raise money for Shaare Zedek Medical Centre in Jerusalem. Our board has included and continues to include some of the most prominent members of the Anglo-Jewish community.
Throughout World War II at a time when the hospital lost its main source of income from the Jewish community of Europe our UK supporters continued to meet working hard to raise much-needed funds for the hospital. Despite such an overwhelming financial and emotional setback during the war Shaare Zedek extended its care to include the influx of European immigrants. At this time the contribution of Shaare Zedek UK became even more vital.
Our work continues to support that of the hospital, enabling it to provide front-line services throughout Jerusalem, but we would not be able to continue this without our dedicated staff and layleaders.
