When I visited Shaare Zedek for the first time in May 2024, months into the war, I instantly realised that it’s more than just a hospital; it’s a reflection of Jerusalem’s diverse population and a true beacon of coexistence. This really struck a chord with me and has inspired me to raise the money to purchase a Foetal Monitor for Labour & Delivery that can help ensure the safe delivery of every child born at Shaare Zedek.
Each year, over 100,000 people seek urgent care in Shaare Zedek’s Emergency Department, while 22,000 babies are born at the hospital annually, making it one of the busiest maternity departments in the Western world. These numbers tell only part of the story.
During my visit last year, I witnessed first hand what makes this place truly remarkable: patients and staff from every part of Israeli society – Jewish and Arab, religious and secular, veteran and immigrant – all side by side, caring for each other, healing together. It’s a hospital that doesn’t just serve the city of Jerusalem; it embodies its soul.
Every day, patients arrive at Shaare Zedek in need of urgent, life-saving care and they’re met with professionalism, compassion and cutting-edge technology.
Each birth at the hospital is carefully monitored to ensure the health of both mother and child. The foetal monitors that I’m raising money for are essential for a safe delivery, and with 22,000 births a year, they’re in constant demand. They’re not just for Jewish or Arab families; they’re for Jerusalem’s future, in all its beauty and diversity.
Shaare Zedek is growing, planning to double its capacity to meet the needs of a city that’s growing, changing and healing from trauma. When you support my fundraising, you’re not just helping buy life-saving equipment; you’re helping ensure new lives arrive in good health and are getting the best possible care, without delay, without bias and without exception.
